Dr Christine Hyde is a senior psychologist who joined the profession after an extensive career as a primary school teacher in both Australian and international settings. The combination of expertise in these two professions uniquely positions Christine to understand the progression of academic learning, developmental needs and behavioural concerns of children and adolescents.

Christine works collaboratively with schools and where needed will conduct observations and liaise with teachers for diagnostic purposes and to better understand and treat the presenting concerns for younger children. Through her doctoral studies Christine has specialised knowledge in the management of children/teens with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)., spending time at the Autism Queensland school, Brighton as well as providing a novel approach to understanding perspective taking for children with ASD, in her full year thesis study.

Christine’s studies also focussed on the diagnosis and treatment of a broad range of mental health concerns across the lifespan. Therefore Christine sees adult clients as well. Christine uses evidenced based practise and therapeutic approaches with her patients, who are afforded a warm and inviting environment, as well as privacy for their concerns.

Christine believes that parents/carers are the experts on their children and collaboratively engages with them to understand problematic behaviour or conditions, and to develop, implement and evaluate treatment goals.

Christine began her career as a primary teacher in Victoria, Australia where she was a classroom and specialist teacher for many years across all of the primary ages. After which Christine relocated overseas for sixteen years and was employed by both the Ministries of Education in Brunei and Singapore. Christine was a counsellor at the American Club in Singapore (SACAC), providing services to expatriate children, adolescents and adults. Christine has extensive life experience across a variety of cultural and religious backgrounds.

On relocating to Brisbane, Australia, Christine maintained teaching experience as well as conducted psychological testing across Brisbane schools for an Australian normative study which contributed to the formulation of the Woodcock Johnson-III Tests of Cognitive and Achievement, Australasian Adaptation. This since been updated and Christine has full expertise with this. Christine’s studies required extensive hours of professional practice, which included work experience with Queensland Health, occupational rehabilitation work in several private companies and attendance at Autism Queensland School, Brighton. Prior to conducting her private practise Christine worked for several years at a multidisciplinary health clinic on Brisbane’s Southside.
