Bruce Laing is an experienced psychologist and has worked with children, young people and families for more than 25 years. His graduate study focussed exclusively on the mental health of children and young people. Bruce has worked for community organisations, Queensland Education and for the last 15 years in child and youth mental health services as both a therapist and team leader. Bruce has dedicated his career to supporting families and their children to achieve the very best outcomes in difficult situations. Bruce can provide individual therapy that can help young people improve and grow. Bruce believes to best support a child’s emotional and psychological wellbeing the family and those closest can be a great resource to support change.
Bruce is experienced in a wide variety of acute and chronic mental health presentations of children and young people. He has worked with children and young people experiencing emotional regulation difficulties, anxiety, depression, school refusal, OCD, Bipolar Affective Disorder, psychosis, issues of gender and eating disorders. As an accredited Maudsley Family Therapist; he appreciates the struggles that families and young people have as they recover from Anorexia. Bruce also has an interest in Father’s struggling to make the transition into fatherhood. Bruce has a reputation amongst his colleagues for steadiness, honesty and integrity and he is committed to supporting the continued recovery of children and young people accessing services at Brisbane Specialist Suites.
Qualifications: B Soc Sci, Grad Dip Psych (Child and Adolescent)
Special Interests: Mental health presentations of young people – anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, issues of gender, eating disorders , parent child relationship difficulties. Mental health presentations for younger children – struggling with emotional regulation and accepting of limits, early relationships with family, transition to parenthood
